One Piece 943: great final page, with Zoro and Sanji coming together quite by
accident in a heroic moment – and then getting irritated with each other. It’s
crazy that they haven’t been in the same place in this story for 5 1/2 years’
worth of chapters. The effects of Smile are pretty dark, too. We’ve seen it
before in Batman but it fits into
this world too.
Samurai 8 03: nice simple action conclusion with the two main characters working
together. Familiar stuff. Indeed, there are a lot of familiar elements here – a
kid being blessed with extraordinary powers thanks to something their dad did, a
set-up for friendly rivalry and a whole lot of homoeroticism, though I guess
it’s subtly different here since Nanashi is genderless so the homoeroticism can
only be if Hachimaru sees Nanashi as a boy. Either way, it hasn’t quite clicked
with me yet, and I think that’s a pretty common reaction.
Haikyuu! 350: It seemed like we were glossing over the build up towards Asahi
having to face up to intense pressure, but it looks like it’s back on the
table.
One Punch Man
(manga) 108: giving Saitama something
else to do in this arc was worthwhile, and it was obviously a great chance for
Murata to show his drawing chops (and much respect to him for working after a
personal tragedy) but there was little here that was uplifting or hilarious in
the way OPM often is. Pochi’s scenes were cute, though.
Dr. Stone 106: So this will be infiltration. I don’t really buy
the sudden portrayal of Kohaku as totally unladylike and thus not cute. She’s
always been portrayed as monstrously strong and capable but cute nonetheless.
Still, should be fun.
The Promised
Neverland 135: quite pleased to get
away from the hallucinogenic plot. Aish is pretty cool!
