One
Punch Man 102v2-103:
Nice to see the swordsman trio in action in this revised version, especially the
silly drill sword. Sweet Mask’s solution came as a surprise to nobody at all (I
imagine) but it was effectively done. That poor giant bearded dragon, though,
haha. A more realistic art style made that moment even more grotesque.

One Piece 931-2: Sanji’s scene was both interesting and funny. I
liked his new technology, wasn’t impressed by his unconvincing flashback, and
loved the humour of it. The terrible name and the place his thoughts
immediately went to when he realized he could turn invisible. I’m very
interested to see what happens with Big Mom, and also curious about just how
formidable Lord Orochi really is.
Dr. Stone 92-3: Despite how much I normally like genderless
characters I’m not a big fan of Francois. We already have so many hypercapable
characters, yet another is a bit dull. Senku’s first photo of the new era was
very cute though.
Chainsawman 8-9: I’m not sure how long the sheer momentum can carry
this series from battle to battle. Poor guy didn’t even get his coveted fondle.
Haikyuu! 336-7: It ended abruptly but I loved seeing Bokuto in
action and celebrated so much. I’ve got no doubt Karasuno will make it to the
final but I’m in two minds about who will win in the end. Totally happy to see
Bokuto take it. Sports manga makes me want to get back into fencing…
The Promised
Neverland 121-2: I liked the way we
could see Emma so conflicted but she went along with everyone else anyway. I
guess Norman will turn out to be an antagonist after all. But I don’t know how
this will develop from here so I’m more invested again. This was a nice
reprieve – I should really watch the anime too.

Chainsawman 6-7: This started to feel
more generic. Predictable story beats, and I still feel like the best thing
about the series is Pochita and we can only see him in flashbacks. The blood
demon girl should probably be able to deal with this too.
Kuroshitsuji 148: I’ll be honest. I can’t even
remember what happened to Agni. Don’t mind Soma powering up and getting
disillusioned, and the urchin was cute, but this generic manga scene with
London thugs in place of the usual Yakuza or Yankii was totally brainless. Like
he wouldn’t have had such an encounter before this.
Boruto 31: Sure, you can have him pretend to be
weak but unless there’s a huge leap in how interesting this fight is, it’s not
going to feel like it’s living up to the title’s legacy.

One Punch Man
102: Moving briskly along, we get a
snippet of Pig God, then the A-class fighters. Hopefully we get a fair bit more
Sweet Mask now, though it might be mostly to show what a terrible person he is.
Haikyuu! 335: Ahaha, I guess this is why I love Bokuto! Because
he too just wants to have the most fun possible. He can back it up with raw
talent, though. And man, he’s so hilarious with his little troll shot. Even the
commentators are throwing shade with the ‘flexible mind’ line. Very
entertaining chapter.
The Promised
Neverland 120: Hrmm, genocide eh?
Well, genocide against an apex predator with a significant but somewhat weird
weakness makes a degree of sense. I’d like them to at least raise those two
peaceful monsters they met in the forest – how are they holding their forms?
Eating other monsters? Finding enough wild humans? Monsters that take on the
forms of things they consume is nothing new, in manga or in sci-fi in general,
but where the story goes from here could be intriguing.
Dr. Stone 91: It’s not exactly progress but I like this kind of
chapter. Well, the agricultural part was progress indeed, even if it feels like
it should have come earlier. But the silly Luffy-style “We need better bread so
let’s get a chef” logic is a lot more fun than what we’ve had lately.
D.Gray-Man 231: Haha, might as well just write ‘Edinburgh’ when it’s
so obviously Edinburgh. Might help the American translators stop writing ‘England’.
Haven’t enjoyed this title much for a while, but when Allen gets to be Allen and
might actually unload his full story on Kanda at last, that makes me more
interested again. Though their sparking off each other got slightly tedious in
this chapter.

One Punch Man
101: Zombieman’s turn. I wouldn’t have
minded a bit more Child Emperor, but after all we’ve been focusing on him for
months now. This chapter was a lot closer to the original webcomic, including
the cutaway leading to just the aftermath. Pretty good decision, I think,
partly because the whole point is that Zombieman’s fighting style is just a
slog and thus not that fun to watch, and partly because he also gets another
chance to shine with Homeless Emperor.

One Piece 930: Big Mom’s big entry wasn’t so exciting, and I’m
not that invested in Sanji’s fight. Plus there’s a hiatus next time? Blah.
Haikyuu! 334: Bokuto! Bokuto! Him being buoyed up like that is
so pure-hearted, haha. That’s why I like him so much.
The Promised
Neverland 119: I should start watching
the anime adaptation soon. This chapter was no big surprise, though tearful
reunions are enjoyable. I’m not wholly sure what this cliffhanger will lead to,
but that’s mostly because there are too many possible options for it to be…
Dr. Stone 90: pretty satisfying exploration, though I kind of
feel like agriculture should have been discussed waaaay sooner.
Kuroshitsuji 147: I’ve not really been looking forward to Black Butler chapters of late, but this
was a bit of a return to the way this series used to be. Opulence, impressive
art, Ciel being assertive and then getting chided, and the original gang all
together – albeit not in their usual position of power. I don’t care for this
antagonist but I like seeing these guys interact. And the Chinese clothes were
super cute – especially on Finnie!

Haikyuu! 333: didn’t take long to turn that little slump around.
Feel like that was a bit by-the-numbers. But Bokuto remains sporadically fun.
Chainsawman 4-5: ehhh, the boob jokes can only take this so far.
After a pretty unique feeling in the opening chapters, this is starting to feel
a tad stale. We’ll see how it develops from here.
