Haikyuu! 297: Aww Tsukki learning the power of teamwork. And smack-talk of course. Nice close match – and I think Nekoma will take the first game.

Dr. Stone 53: This is more like it, and makes a lot more sense of the crazy goal they set themselves. Now they have a waterwheel they have motive power and can make automatic bellows and a generator, with rather pleasant effects. I know the motivating factor is a big war coming, but this sort of thing is nice all on its own. It’s just fun to see this society develop with one genius scientist from the distant past a guide.

Makai no Ossan 1-370: I decided to read all the way through this, One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 creator One’s other webcomic. Of the three, this is by far the least popular and least well-known, and that’s not entirely surprising. While it’s probably the most autobiographical and confessional, it’s also the one with the most low-key humour and with the weakest concept. Like the others, it’s about an ordinary person with incredible hidden powers, though this time they’re not the actual focus of the story. This is about a normal family in a very normal demon world. The father is a salaryman, the mother is a homemaker who seems to have given up a great deal, the eldest son wants to make manga even though he’s terrible, the younger son struggles with high school romance, and the daughter, the youngest child, is caring for a very strange pet. There’s a funny set-up towards the end where the humans invade and are surprised to find the demon world such an ordinary Japanese society, but mostly it’s about everyday struggles. I suspect a lot of One’s own insecurities and personal problems were put into the oldest son’s story, but without such a clear and interesting story as his other titles, this one is likely to go largely unnoticed. Still, nice to fill the time before the next OPM chapters!

Boruto 22: An aftermath chapter, and a typical one where the hero shows mercy and does his lil’ speeches, then a bigger bad guy comes to mop up. Nice art, but a very formulaic execution, pardon the pun.

The Promised Neverland 81: Quite cute that Gillian totally undermines all the overthinking that went on in this chapter…but that kind of makes it annoying I had to read through all that overthinking.
