Mujirushi 01 – what…the…heck? It’s an Urusawa Naoki / Osomatsu-kun mash-up? What’s going on?? Lol

Dr. Stone 36: Ginrou is so damn cute and culpable!

Tuesday, 24 October 2017

Kuroshitsuji 133: For a twist that was built up to for years and years (figured out by perceptive fans) the revelation of the true Ceil has been extremely anticlimactic. On the other hand, these flashbacks are super cute and show Toboso actually does know (or has found out) the way a stately home would have to be staffed and run. Nice chapter.

Dr. Stone 32: Awww, Ginrou-kun! He’s my favourite in this manga and it’s nice to see him come through.

Saturday, 5 August 2017

Haikyuu! 265: Ohh, targeting poor Pudding. I wonder if they’ll be able to wear him down. As someone whose weakness in sports is stamina, I understand that!
The Promised Neverland 50: pretty nasty imagery for the factory farms, but it’s not unexpected in this world. Interesting little preview of Minerva too. Next time the story has to move on and I’m interested to see where it will go. Norman will probably return before that much longer, too.
Mob Psycho 100 100.7: the best joke here was in the omake, with the two separate tongs. Otherwise, it’s a reunion of old bad guys, now amusingly working in the local conbini. Finally, the arc gets interesting with a showdown promised a couple of arcs ago, though.

One Punch Man (manga) 120: I’m glad I’m not reading this for the first time – what makes this arc good is that it subverts the very generic expectations set up here, but we’re still in the generic part so it comes across as a bit lame. On the other hand, Saitama and King have a great little scene.

Friday, 4 August 2017

One Piece 874: a weird chapter of sun monsters burning tree monsters and Nami blackmailing everybody, but again there was an interesting final twist. I do wonder what happens if the crew escapes, though – what comes next? It is nice to have a situation where the heroes just have no chance but to run, though.
HunterxHunter 367: well, I suppose some progress was made, but that wasn’t a very interesting development of this rather slow arc. I’m not sure where all of this is going, but we’ll need more action soon.

Dr. Stone 22: haha, they made ramen. That’s a pretty cute idea…and makes me want ramen.

Monday, 17 July 2017

One Piece 872: Mama’s gonna rampage and that’ll save the Straw Hats, huh? They got very lucky this time, but there’ll be a full-scale scrap soon enough, you can tell. Zoro’s opponent even got introduced. A little sad to see Bege and Caesar leaving, but curious where this will go next.
Haikyuu! 262: The spotlight’s on Tanaka. I didn’t even recognise him with the hair in the flashback! Feel like this is building up to him getting a dramatic set-closing point…after another break.
HunterxHunter 364: Not a very interesting chapter overall, despite Kurapika not only taking care of the threat but manipulating listeners at the same time. Now it’s down to matters of protocol, which also isn’t that gripping. Hope things get streamlined in this arc soon.
Dr. Stone 19: awww, I like this funny new gang!
The Promised Neverland 47: Determination sets in, but I didn’t like how simple the explanation of the world was here. It may be false but then it seems a waste of time to have explained at all. Still, nice to see new optimism.
Mob Psycho 100 100.5: Nice showdown with a satisfying climax to it, but this rampage is getting a tad boring now.

D. Gray-Man 225: getting a bit confusing who is who with all the multiple identities, and now Tyki is getting one too. But at least at the end we got the real Allen back. For how long? Who knows.

Monday, 10 July 2017

One Piece 871: not sure I like the gang escaping out of luck, but it certainly raised the tension. They’re not strong enough yet, and that at least gives the title space to grow. Plus I’m interested to see what’s lined up for the 20th anniversary next week.
Dr. Stone 18: I was totally won over by this chapter. I loved Chrome and the anti-climax at the end of the chapter. I really enjoyed the other villagers’ reactions to the ‘sorcery’ and especially the static effect on their hair. Cute, funny chapter that takes this story somewhere more interesting and revitalises this title after it seemed to expend its entire plot in the first arc.
HunterxHunter 363: Bit too much talking this chapter, without much action. But at least things moved towards excitement with the cliffhanger.
Haikyuu!! 261: This is all setting up for Tanaka to have a nice moment, I can tell.
Boruto 14: nice to see a bit of a different kind of fighter, but this was a by-the-numbers fight and some of the action panels were a bit dubious. Not sure where this arc can go now, if anywhere, but it seemed abortive.

The Promised Neverland 46: I guess we’ll get some world-building from now on. Interesting to have saviours like this, but I don’t know what will happen from here on out. Presumably they won’t have these allies for long and will soon be back on the run.

Monday, 3 July 2017

Mob Psycho 100.3-4: One’s art is definitely improving a lot. Hopefully that will transition to One Punch Man soon. How will Mob’s rampage end, and how will this affect how he sees himself? Interesting to find out.

Sunday, 2 July 2017

Dr. Stone 17: quite a lot of the chapter given over to just showing names and faces, but I’m quite liking this development. The newly-introduced characters are quite interesting and I wonder how this little society will develop the storyline.

The Promised Neverland 45: the kids are safe for now, but who is looking over them? Clearly they’re not to be trusted. I want to see who they are.

Thursday, 15 June 2017

Dr. Stone 14-15: the prequel chapter was a little slow, but quite interesting. Nice to see a manga encourage logical thinking – like Death Note, I suppose! And The Promised Neverland right now as well. But now the title has moved on to its next phase, with the heroes separating. Wonder if we’ll follow each group or just Senkuu…

The Promised Neverland 42-43: no surprise that the bestial demon was easily dealt with, but the new twists here with Ray separated from the rest and a strange new face appearing make this arc more interesting than the last has been for a while. I’m intrigued!
One Punch Man 75: This is pretty much how I expected things to go, with a bit more Suiryuu than I’d wanted. Great to see the ease with which Saitama dismantles this set-up.
One Piece 866: Even though Big Mom’s such a distorted, crazy character, even she gets this kind of back-story. It’s funny to see her so young, with the same uncontrollable abilities.
Haikyuu 255: Some great expressions in this chapter, haha
Dr. Stone 12: I knew there would be something to undo what happened before this. Wonder how the title will develop.
The Promised Neverland 40: This chapter played through what was clear from the last chapter. Still entertaining! And the omake was oddly cute as well.

One Piece 868-869: Fun chapters! The plot went awry, of course, but there’s a moment of respite as Bege shows another amusing power. Some last snippets of the young Lin-Lin’s life too. I enjoyed these a lot…too bad there’s another break.
Haikyuu! 258-259: Cute, Hinata is starting to think for himself and emulate others. This kind of minutiae is what makes sports manga fun.
One Punch Man 76: Unexpected chapter, half Puri Puri Prisoner gross-out homophobic humour that admittedly can be very funny (though was much better-done in Macadamia Wasshoi) and half uncharacteristic soul-searching from Saitama.

Mob Psycho 100 100.1: Well, this is quite the development. Should have the next chapter tomorrow…quite excited to see what happens next.

Sunday, 21 May 2017

Haikyuu! 254: Seeing a frustrated Hinata is pretty cute. I know Karasuno will win this one, but I’m curious to see how they overcome this.
Mob Psycho 100 99.1-2: the new arc will be confession, eh? I hope this goes to somewhere more…exaggerated. It’s been a bit boring lately, and the omake wasn’t very funny.

Dr. Stone 011: Interested to see where this goes. I doubt they’re aiming to wrap this all up in 20 chapters and there’s the intrigue of the other people

Friday, 5 May 2017

One Piece 864: no explosion where one was expected, as it’s still brewing, but Bege got the best lines at the end of this. Though the misunderstanding about Brook’s face was rather brilliant. Definitely looking forward to the rest of this developing!
Dr. Stone 09: Quite a satisfying chapter, though Senju has some ridiculous speed. Obviously the other factions will intervene…but who might they be?
Boruto 012: this looked like it would be a bad generic filler-style chapter, but it was actually very well done, and with nice art. Didn’t appreciate what became of poor Shino in the Omake, though.

The Promised Neverland 37: the escape finally happened. Very nice bit of backstory for Mama too, especially connecting her to Ray in an unexpected manner. Looking forward to seeing how this title develops from here.

Wednesday, 26 April 2017

The Promised Neverland 36: a good escape chapter! And a part for Norman, even if he wasn’t actually there. From now on things may get much more interesting.

Saturday, 22 April 2017

One Piece 863: A very entertaining chapter! I liked Luffy’s entrance, Jinbe’s strange control of the pace in the midst of the action, and of course Brook’s final little coup de grace.
One Punch Man 73.2-74: Great art in these chapters, but I really need to see more Saitama.
Haikyu! 251: That’s an annoying audience. Looks like it’s been set up to be countered, though, which is nice to see.
Dr. Stone 08: Oh, some company! That might make for an interesting development. What’s next?

Wednesday, 19 April 2017

One Piece 862: I’m really glad that the action has kicked in! I don’t know how Luffy did what he did but it was definitely a cool entrance. And I guess Pudding is somewhat redeemable now, too.
The Promised Neverland 35: interesting developments abound here, too, as the title goes where it’s been building up to for so long, now. Looking forward to next time more than I have for a while.
Haikyuu! 250: Hinata has a good moment at last, and there were a slew of funny reactions. Looking forward to this getting animated.
Mob Psycho 100 98.12: this kinda fell flat. Think it’d better be time to do something completely different.

Dr Stone 07: the meat of this title is now established, I suppose. Very nice art of the daibutsu, but Tsukasa’s deductive reasoning is perhaps a bit overboard.

Sunday, 9 April 2017

The Promised Neverland 034: the action begins and the chase is on. That’s pretty satisfying after all the build-up. Curious to see how this one straggler changes things.
Haikyuu! 249: possibly Hinata’s dumbest moment, bless him.
Dr Stone 06: makes sense as a standoff…but if this is the core of the story, it may not sustain interest.

Mob Psycho 100 98.11: silly aliens. If this is just a gag arc, let’s get it over with quick.

Saturday, 1 April 2017

Yotsubato! 95: very cute – poor lil’ Yotsuba was stressed out by Tokyo. Looking forward to seeing more places I recognise in this loveable series!
The Promised Neverland 033: Ahh, it was a fakeout. That makes more sense, and I’m glad it happened, but the way things were framed made that pretty unlikely. And poor Emma’s ear!
Boruto 11: a new arc, and not a very auspicious start. The angle of having to be a bodyguard to a spoilt rich kid was already overdone in the original series, and the trading card idea is very uninspired. Ah well, the last arc surprised me so maybe this one will be good too.

Mob Psycho 100 98.10: again with the silly numbering. Oh well, the arc has finally picked up with a surprise final panel – that transcends One’s usual art. Things ought to pick up now, too.

Thursday, 30 March 2017

One Piece 861: Nooo, not a hiatus now! At least it’s only one week. A great chapter of final preparations and the beginning of the real action. This arc has flowed nicely to this point, with the possible exception of Luffy’s capture and hunger strike, and I’m very keen to see how the plan goes off. Big Mom’s sudden mood swing was done brilliantly, too.
Haikyuu! 248: haha, Hinata and Kageyama’s squabbles are cute – especially with Kageyama sticking up for Hinata in his own way. Interested in how this match will play out, even if there’s no chance Karasuno will lose here.
Dr. Stone 05: I’m surprised reviving Yuzuriha wasn’t delayed much longer, but now there’s a clear antagonist it will be interesting to see how the heroes fight against him.

Sunday, 26 March 2017

The Promised Neverland 032: another big twist for this interesting series. Without Norman as the kind of ‘angel’ on Emma’s shoulder, I thought Ray would influence her to directly attack Mama. Instead he’s taken drastic action and Emma’s going to be making the escape attempt alone. Pretty unexpected, and I’m curious where this will go next.

Mob Psycho 100 98.9: everything’s ironed out, then. Human drama’s over – let’s hope the next chapter brings amusing action.

Wednesday, 15 March 2017

Haikyuu!! 246: aww, cute interim chapter. Poor Ryuu-chan needs a break!
Dr. Stone 3: makes sense that they have to delay the final aim. And this new ‘musketeer’ is pretty interesting – even if his entrance was totally ridiculous. The whole manga is ridiculous, though, so it works.
One Piece 859: a really fun chapter. Luffy being his idiot self, with all the wrong priorities. A great little moment for Big Mom as she sees the switched-out Brook. Bege showing his extra character trait, doting over his baby. And preparations all set for an exciting plan that’s certain to go badly wrong. More please!

Monday, 13 March 2017

The Promised Neverland 030: A sad chapter showing Emma’s best qualities – she’s the best female protagonist of a Jump series I can think of. But it’s pretty obvious Norman’s fate isn’t what we’ve been led to think it is. So what’s happened? Has he been recruited in some way? Is it all a rouse and they’re on a Truman Show style TV programme? We’ll see.

Thursday, 9 March 2017

One Piece 858: satisfying chapter, even if not a lot happened and a large part of it was gratuitous shower scenes before playing dress-up. I’m just pleased to see how things are progressing, and I do like Bege.
Haikyuu! 245: Hinata’s eternal rival! I was glad to see this lil’ clash, with sparks flying. Hope they spend more time together.

Dr. Stone 1-2: Another new series, and a bit of an odd one. Two highschoolers have to survive after being turned to stone for over 3,000 years. One brainy, one brawny. It’s an oddly accessible set-up and I’ll continue to read.

Tuesday, 7 March 2017

The Promised Neverland 29: Hmm, kind of unexpected. I doubt a major character will be written out here, though. Even if we don’t see him for a while, I’ll expect him to return at some point. But we’ll see.

Thursday, 2 March 2017

Haikyuu!! 244: Bokuto is my favourite non-Karasuno character and it was funny to see his temperamental nature here, and how his teammates cater for it. This kind of genius is always funny to observe and Furudate captures that well.

One Piece 857: I didn’t see this little development coming. An added layer of complexity but also a way forward for Luffy and co. I’ve liked Bege since his introduction so I’m going to enjoy his part in all this. I doubt things will go to plan, so I’m going to enjoy seeing what happens.

Saturday, 25 February 2017

One Punch Man (manga) 072.2: I don’t really care about Suiryu, so this chapter wasn’t so interesting. I hope Saitama comes back for this mid-boss.
Boruto 10: so ends the introductory arc, and it was much stronger than I expected. Really nice art in this chapter, and some hints at things to come. Not at all the dud I expected.

Friday, 17 February 2017

Mob Psycho 100 98.4-5: so a small side-character turns out to have psychic power. Kind of interesting to hear his story, but I don’t know where this can go. We’ll see!
One Punch Man (manga) 72: so the throwaway characters get another chance to be significant, I guess, with monsterized versions. Will Suiryu be able to get rid of them, or will they need Saitama to save the day?
One Piece 854-6: cute chapters. Poor Luffy all wrinkled up, and then instantly seeing right through Sanji to the crux of what he wants and what he needs. And it brings us towards the climax of the arc, which is welcome.

The Promised Neverland 25-26: Mama makes a big move, and it feels like very little up to this point mattered. This could have been chapter 3. Still, I’ll see where the story goes before I judge too harshly.

Tuesday, 31 January 2017

One Punch Man (manga) 71: phew, I thought there was going to be a cop-out and Saitama wasn’t going to fight at all, but in the end we got a conclusion, and a pretty funny confirmation of Saitama’s overwhelming superiority.
The Promised Neverland 024: I feel like everything previous has just been thrown out with this, but it’s at least good that there’s an interesting, surprising, action-filled chapter. Is this series fully planned out, though? Who can say for sure?

Sunday, 29 January 2017

One Piece 853: Luffy’s back to his plan, stubborn as ever. And Brook’s in an interesting spot. The momentum is picking up, now, and I’m certainly interested where this will all go.
Boruto 009: This arc ends in lazy style, but with a big gesture. At least Boruto looks very cute!

Mob Psycho 100 98.2-3: so this arc will be about telepaths, it seems. I wonder who will answer the call? I hope Dimple will be back before too long, too. I have no doubt he’ll return.

Monday, 23 January 2017

D.Gray-Man 224: no getting around it, this was a pretty lazy chapter! Not much happened at all, and it definitely didn’t come over as a month’s work.

One Punch Man (One wecomic) 109: Yet another King gag chapter, but I can’t say I mind. I love these chapters and this was another funny one.

Monday, 16 January 2017

One Piece 852: pretty satisfying chapter focusing on the main elements of this arc. Luffy’s back in action and closer to his goal now, Sanji’s in a stronger position again even though it was a bit of an easy way out story-wise. And there was some nice interaction with his sister, with her interesting moral take on the situation. It’s getting pretty good now.
One Punch Man 70.2: I suspected it would end this way, with only a demonstration rather than a real hit. But the message – that Saitama’s not having fun any more because of the level he’s reached – was an unexpected bonus.
Mob Psycho 100 97.13: Aw, didn’t want it to end this way, but I’m not too worried. I’m sure that’s not the last we’ll see of Dimple.

Mob Psycho 100 98.1: New arc begins in unspectacular style…wonder where it will go, if anywhere.
