HunterXHunter special: Hisoka origin story –
now this is an interesting development! Ishida Sui of the hugely successful Tokyo Ghoul after a conversation with
Togashi. He drew the chapter sketchily, but it’s 69 pages long so no joke!
Impressive that he found the time with his other commitments. The story is a
good one, of Hisoka an imitative prodigy taken in by a circus with a secret. It
shows his introduction to nen and development of his own powers. Nothing
unpredictable or unusual but a lot of fun to see in another artist’s style. If
one day it could be animated, that would be well worth seeing.

One Piece 828 - not the most interesting chapter, but we saw a bit more of the Vinsmoke family, and the situation with Sanji's betrothal is at least a bit more nuanced than being foisted into a marriage he'd loathe.
HunterxHunter 356 - Hisoka is at a huge disadvantage now, which at least makes this fight more compelling, but it's also making it ever more certain he'll win. I just hope the spectacle gets ramped up a few notches - it would be a shame if this were purely a fight of flinging bodies around.
Boruto 002 - Oh, I didn’t realise in chapter 1 that this is only supervised by Kishimoto, but drawn and written by others. It’s a good imitation so I’ll read on. There was nothing much with emotional weight here, but Boruto himself is still on the cute side and I’m interested in seeing him continue to interact with Sasuke.
Yotsubato! 92 – I didn’t miss 91, it’s just that the chapter numbers have been rejigged a little, which apparently happened before as well, though I didn’t notice. In fact, this one is listed as chapter 90, so that’s all a bit confusing. But it was a great chapter, one of my favourites lately. Yotsuba went to try yoga and was unexpectedly quite a genius. But it was her deeply honest, badly-timed comments that really got me smiling. Lots of fun!

One Piece 827: well, our first real idea
of Big Mama’s tastes are suitably creepy. The rest of the chapter was Luffy
getting some Les Miserables style
forgiveness, but I’m glad a clearer narrative is starting to form now.
HunterxHunter
355: This
fighting from the shadows is getting a bit tedious, but at least Chrollo has
made a significant move now. I’m looking forward to finding out what Hisoka
does next.

One Piece 826: The plot thickens with the appearance of Sanji's family, neither real enemies nor allies. Interesting characters, and it will be fun to see another number-based group. Less bothered by the name dropped as a cliffhanger, though.
HunterxHunter 354: Hisoka got to look pretty cool in this chapter, but I very much hope Kuroro gets to do a whole lot more flashy stuff yet. Hisoka isn’t going to lose but this could still end in a kind of draw so for the time being I’m still engaged, but the hit and run tactic isn’t all that interesting.
One Punch Man 60.2: this new arc for the manga version just got more interesting, with a kind of One Kick Man making a big impression. I wonder how they’ll tie things back into the webcomic’s timeline after this.

HunterxHunter 353: ah, Kuroro’s strategy becomes more intriguing, and Hisoka is very much enjoying himself. It was great to see that smirk on his face when he was backed into a corner. Good cliffhanger, too. It was odd to be thrown into this fight with no build-up but it’s definitely enjoyable. I hope Shalnark and Koltopi get their abilities back though!

One Piece 825: another more comedic transition chapter, though the jokes weren’t all that good this time. Still entertaining to read, but now there’s a break. I want the pace to pick up!
HunterxHunter 352: a characteristic Togashi fight continues to unfold with a long explanation. I feel like this has been meticulously planned and I’m very curious what will happen. I can’t predict what Kuroro has planned with this set of abilities, so I’m very interested in where this will go and happy to see HxH back.
One Punch Man special chapter – sentai: an entertaining diversion where once again Saitama is grossly underestimated and sorts everything out in his usual direct manner. He won’t be working in a team in future, then!
Boruto 001 – well, it’s the start of a new saga, and I have to say it didn’t really feel like Naruto ever went away. So now here we are with Naruto 2, Bolt. There were some fun elements to this chapter, like seeing Moegi, and Boruto’s interactions with Sasuke, but overall this feels tired and worn out and if it had been chapter 1 of a brand new series I wouldn’t pick it up. Oh well, the art is at least very nice.
